Tuesday, 23rd february 2010 PRACTICAL

During music practical lesson today, i practice how to play all of me the first round, but then when the time finished, i have not learn the second round. a little bit dissapointed but it is not so bad after all because i get to learn it at home.

Tuesday, 23rd February 2010 THEORY

Today, Me Herry gave us the copy of our 12 bar blues and i got 9! After that, i try tto to play all of me in front of the class. i just realize that the assessment of all of me is next Tuesday, and because of that, i will need to practice more at home.

Friday 19th February 2010 PRACTICAL

During practical lesson, Tiffany and Mr Herry taught me how to play all od me with walking base. Then, we perform one by one. I think i did quite well, but then Mr Herry told us that for the assessment, we need to play it three rounds. first with two hands playing the same note, second is by playing chords by the left hand and melody by the right hand, and third with walking base. For the next music practical lesson, i will learn how to play the first and second round since the only thing i can accomplish now is the third round.

Friday, 19th February 2010 THEORY

Today, we watch performance of all of me by every person from each instrumental group. Adeline and Tiffant were the representatives of the piano group so they play piano in front of the class. James and Budi played guitar, Adriani and Hasan played the violin, and last, Jeanne and Callista played woodwind for us to hear. They all played so great that it personally inspires me to practice more. After that, we make a reflection on ourr 12 bar blues improvisation. Once we have submitted that, we are allowed to go to our music practical class to practice the song all of me. Like what i have planned on tuesday, i will learn how to play walking base together with the melody of all of me.

Tuesday, 16th February 2010 PRACTICAL

In music class today, Mr Herry taught us about the all of me assessment which will be held on 2nd of March 2010. We learn about the chords that we are going to play with each letter shown in the piece. Now i know how to write it on the paper although i still don't know how to play it on the piano, so next session, i will learn how to play walking base on the piano together with the melody of all of me.

Tuesday, 16th February 2010 THEORY

Today, we transfer our 12 bar improvisation blues to a sheet as a final copy. Mr Herry said that we got to practice the improvisation during today's music practical class and friday. We also learn about boogie base and also walking base. Now, i know that all kind of jazz styles has the same root, the ragtime (if not mistaken. In the music class, i will look forward to learn about the music base to play it with the song all of me since it is part of our next assessment.

12th February 2010 PRACTICAL

During the music practical class, Mr. herry told us how to play something called the moving bass. This means that the left hand we use to play does not play chord, instead, it is playing notes which is known as the bass. To sum up, i did learn alot of things during this session because after learning about the moving bass, i can use it to play other pop or jazz songs found in other books.

12th February 2010 THEORY

Today, Nr. Herry played for us our 12 bar bues improvisation. I found out that for C(G), which is on the last bar of the improvisation, I do not need to put C as the last note, instead i can put G or D. For not being able to play during last session, Jessica and Steven played the melody of all of me using the piano followed by the guitar group played by Kevin, Mark, and Bayu demonstrating the same song. When we are done, we were allowed to move to our music instruumental class. Surprisingly, today's theory class is not as boring because we got to watch performances by our friends.

9th February 2010 PRACTICAL

The practical class only takes about 10-15 minutes because of the time limit and not all of us got the chance to play. I did, though, although the consequences that i got for getting the chance to play is being late to the next class. I can't wait for next music practical class because then, Mr. herry said that he is going to teach us how to play something about moving bass.

9th February 2010 THEORY

During music theory class today, we learn about how to make an improvisation for our 12 bar blues to be assessed on the first week of march. It took about 20-25 minutes, and then we were all asked to submit it to the teacher. After that, the piano students were asked to play in the front, all at once, playing the melody all of me. Mr. Herry also told us that for the test later, we need to play the melody first, and then bass in the middle of the song, and for the last part, we again play the melody of the song all of me. After recess, we got to watch the guitar students playing all of me, but then, one who perform was just James, Budi, and Mr. John. When they are done, the time is finish and Mr. Herry told us to move to our music instrumental class.

Tuesday, 2nd February 2010 PRACTICAL

After a week with no music practical session, at last we have one. Today, we all play All of me, still with one hand but this time the tempo gets a bit faster. When Mr.Herry wants to teach us on the left hand, the time is finish, so the class is dismissed. Too bad, the time is short.
On last Friday, 29th January 2010, we did recieve a task which is to make an individual report on the specific types of jazz, famous artist, etc and add up to a total of 15 pages. Suppose, it was due on Friday, 5th February 2010 but since on Friday we have a parent teacher conference (PTC) and no school, the due date was extended to Tuesday, 9th February 2010. Very good newsss:)

Tuesday, 2nd February 2010 THEORY

Today, we learn about improvisation of jazz music. Mr. Herry told us that the rhythm should be syncopated and stressed. After all the class understand what he meant by saying jazz music improvisation, each of us make 12 bars of improvisation, then, Mr. Hary, Mr. John, and Mr. Sadrakh show us their own improvisation (coolB)).
After recess, the group of Melvin, Emir, and Steven did their presentation on fusion jazz, now, i have gain alot of knowledge related on fusion jazz and especially like their performance on playing the song by Jason Mraz.

Friday, 29th January 2010 THEORY

Today is the day for our singing assessment and all of us are required to sing sway by Michael Buble. I think i did quite good although my score is only 6.5 if i were the one who could assess my self, i will consider it to be 7.5 (and it was that Tiffany's voice which is very LOUD). Well, not satisfying but what else can i do? I think, today's session is super boring because all we got to do is to listen everyone singing the same song over and over again (wondering when will there be a music pratical session).

Tuesday, 26 January 2010 THEORY

Today is the day for our music group powerpoint presentation about cool jazz. Our group was the third to presentate and that in particular was after recess. Andrew was in charge of bringing the audio sample and put it in the midi but in fact, he forgot to do what he has to so, i download a music video in youtube. The song was created by Miles Davis but before he entered the era of cool jazz. I do think that the presentation was a success because all of us (as a group) explain cool jazz clearly and precisely using every languages that everyone can understand. Personally, I do think that Tiffany, James, Kevin, and Andri's presentation is the best, especially when they perform all of me using musical instrument with James singing. To improve next time, i think i will have to give more effort on making and presenting the presentation.

Friday, 22th January 2009 THEORY

Today, there are no music class. However, we did learn something valuable which is to find the chord of C7, F7, and G7. I now know that 7 behind each letter is called the dominantsept chord. After making sure that all of us understand about this dominantsept chord, Mr. Herry told us to make the improvisation for the bluies music that was given to us in the first class of music. I think it is quite easy because all we need to do is to make improvisation for the first 4 bars of the music.
After that, we gather with our team mates brain storm about the presentation. Our group, the cool jazz group decided to make a presentation of 11 slides (including the front page and the bibliography) which consist of the definition of cool jazz (1 slide) history of cool jazz and how it become popular amongst people (3 slides because history must consist of before, present, and after), musical instruments used (2 slides including its pictures), popular artist during the cool jazz era (2 slides for 2 artist), and the last slide is used for the audio. I find today's music class fun just like any other classes felt like when there is a class discussion.

Tuesday, 19th January 2010 PRACTICAL

The time limit for music practical is always reduced by music theory class. Sometimes i wonder why can't music class be all practical instead of dividing it into two parts. So.. we have not move on with our practical skills in piano as we still played the song all of me using one hand (all of us did). When all of us have got the chance to play, the time has finished, so the class were dismissed (late a bit but it's okay). Like before, music pratical class is quite fun.

Tuesday, 19th January 2010 THEORY

Today, we have a split session of music class and one half of them was used for music theory class (baddd:(). During the first session, Mr.Herry gave us the video of Sway by Michael Buble and we were given the lyrics of that particular song. After listening for it twice, each music instrumental group were asked to sing in front of the class. Then, we go for recess. And yes, again, music theory class is so monotone.
After recess, the whole class were divided into groups of six, and my group mates are Andrew, Aryo, and Budi. The topic we are going to do a research on is Cool Jazz, and the required information are the history, instrument used, sample of cool jazz, and the characteristic of cool jazz. By the end of the session, i know six different types of jazz and i'm happy with that. By next session, our group must finish at least half of the presentation. Okay, so music theory class is not that bad when we got to choose and discuss in group.

Noww, we are in music practical class. This is based on the instrument we choose. As for me, i choose to go to piano class, therefore Mr.Herry is my coach. In music practical class today, I learn a new song called all of me. I still play it only using the right hand while Mr.Herry played for me the bass in syncopated rhythm. I do think that this song is great, especially when i search for the lyrics at home. Music practical class is greattt!

Friday, 15th January 2010

Today is the first day of music class in semester 2 and my first music class in the wholee year and i feel really excited!
During the first session, Mr. Herry told us some basic information about music class and what we need to do and bring. He also mentioned about our personal engagement and the criteria assessed in this class. I now know that everytime we go into music class, we need to bring learning journal, writing materials, class folder, music book, and instrument (if we choose guitar, woodwind, violin but not piano!) in music class, we have to come on time, be attentive and proactive, be motivated, and follow the teacher's intruction. Well, i think it is not that hard to agree with everything told to us.
After that, we are handed 3 handouts which consist of a music piece entitled all of me, music genre about blues, and music terms. Then, Mr. Herry inform us that music theory class is over and that we need to move to practical class. To be honest, i don't really like the situation in theory class and that it is boring. Maybe, i'm still not getting used to it, but when two weeks have passed, i'm sure that music theory class won't be much of a problem.
